Marian Gail Cane - co founder of The Friends of the Lady in Red

In 1992 she met Alan and married some months later. The wedding reception was held at Woolley Grange Hotel in Bradford on Avon where she eventually worked as a bookkeeper. Her work figured largely in her life, she enjoyed providing her best and was faultless in her approach.

She blossomed over the years, her creative ability could be seen in everything around her - Home and Garden, she derived so much pleasure from the garden. Her knowledge of plants and flowers, which always grew in profusion, reflected her flair for design and colour.

Marian's family were the most important part of her life she possessed an uncanny knack in drawing everyone together always prepared to host the impromptu party or get together - producing copious amounts of food and drinks in next to no time. Her children and grandchildren held a big part of her heart, she loved family days out and barbeques - any excuse was good - always giving each grandchild quality time and guidance. Marian was the most selfless of people bringing warmth and joy to all those she met.

Marian had a strong personality and a keen sense of justice she was feisty and possessed a wonderful sense of humour. We always knew she would have the last word. She could always make us laugh. Throughout her illness she did not lose that ability. She bore everything with amazing courage and fortitude and still we saw her beautiful smile. She was beautiful. Her radiance shone through.

Marian was a giver, everyone who knew or met her will have been touched by her warmth and cheerful smile.

She loved her Golden Retriever Ollie and Poppy her cat who both gave her comfort especially during the recent months. She loved the sea, the rain and stormy weather - hence her middle name Gail. Marian was born during a storm in 1952 and passed away during a storm and gale force winds on the evening of  9th January 2007. The Cremation experienced similar gale force winds during which a tree in the grounds of Woolley Grange Hotel where Marian worked blew down during the wake. Some sceptics may say a coincidence, I am not so sure!

During her illness Marian  was selfless, always thinking of others, working hard to raise money for Cancer Research and Macmillan Cancer Support. The last few months she became unable to enjoy the more simple of pleasures such as Good Food, Chocolate and Baileys. Gradually the fight became more difficult and each day became more tiring for her but still her spirit shone through. Sadly she fell asleep on the in January she has enriched our lives and was an example to us all. We give thanks for her life. The special love she and Alan shared and her intense love for her children, grandchildren and family.

We miss her so much.

We will never forget her!
